- Pell Grant of $9,000 plus a $52,000 loan funds my schooling.
- It was promised to arrive in weeks 2–5 but still hasn't arrived, and I borrowed a laptop.
I was awarded a Pell Grant of $9,000 on top of my $52,000 loan that pays for my school. I was told I would get my Pell Grant between weeks 2 and 5:00 this didn't happen causing me to have to borrow a laptop and find other ways to get through my first semester I was able to do so but I still have not received the money owed to me there's always an excuse or something they say they didn't receive which I've sent multiple times

- Pell Grant of $9,000 has not been received; documents sent twice.
- Cannot buy laptop, books, or supplies; borrowed a laptop to study.
I did not receive the program within the allotted time. I was unable to buy a laptop or school supplies or books.
I had to borrow a laptop to finish my work, which I did, and I was told to drop the ball and was supposed to order a form along with copies of my IDs before I started school. I'm now doing that for the second time, them stating they never received my first mail-in request and still have not received my $9,000 Pell Grant. I have no food, no way to live, and I'm getting straight A's in school. I want this resolved immediately, as this was supposed to cover all of my expenses that I cannot cover.
I am completely broke now, and I want someone to address this; every time I call, it's someone new, and I have to re-explain the situation. I have never had an issue with being given my Pell Grant when my $52,000 loan covers my classes that I signed up for. I am in great debt because of the school, and all I am asking is for my living expenses and books and school supplies to be covered with my Pell Grant. That should not be too much to ask, as the state approved me for over $90,800.
Tampering with evidence, if I do not get this shortly after giving them what they requested a second time, including the first time I sent it, that's three times. I will take it to the next level, but I'm sure this is happening to more than just me, and it is not okay. I've never had a problem with Rio Salado. I've never had a problem with Paradise Valley Community College.
I've never had a problem with Phoenix College or any other school I have attended in the past. I am questioning signing up for DeVry at this point and am finding other ways out of this community.
I would try Rio Salado first; they were fantastic. I've never needed to do so much work to get what I've been approved for.
- Easy to do online
- No direct deposit as promised
Preferred solution: All I'm asking is my Pell Grant be released to me immediately it should have been released before I started my first semester and now I'm finishing my first semester without any help from my Pell grant that I was awarded
User's recommendation: Call anyone but DeVry
Devry is Awful, NOT Recommended
- Staff, teachers, and advisors are unprofessional.
- Ads mislead and help is limited.
- Not recommended; consider other schools.
I do not recommend DeVry to anyone. They are very uninformative, unprofessional, the teachers are awful, the advisors are horrible, the classroom settings are the worst I have ever been in; I can go on and on.
DeVry will advertise anything to get you to go to their school but once you get in, they are of no help getting you through to the end of your educational journey. If you want to transfer; keep everything on record (EMAIL!!!). Again, I do NOT recommend this school to anyone.
It was a HUGE loss for me financially and a loss of time as well. I highly recommend you do research and look into any other school and program out there; DeVry is NOT your route.
- It was online schooling
- Unreliable university education
- Lied
- Loss of time

BAD EXPERIENCE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
- DeVry messed up my son's college experience.
- Grants and scholarships were mishandled.
- Not recommended; they seem focused on money.
DeVry has totally messed up my sons college experience. They have fumbled the ball on the grants and scholarships.
They have messed it up so bad that it will take my son approx 5 years to get a bachelors degree. So frustrated with DeVry. Would NOT recommend this school to anyone; and they don’t care about bad reviews.
They only care about the $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Not worth it/false claims
- Focused on writing paragraphs and group discussion.
- No coding or Raspberry Pi used.
- About $6k for three classes; FTC investigated after quitting.
Class primarily consisted of writing random paragraphs and having group discussion. Nothing seemed to deal with learning code or how to use the required Raspberry pi...
never even used it for the class we were forced to buy it for. They never really tell you how much a semester hour cost either... I took 3 classes 1 semester and quit due to the quality of classes.
Those 3 classes cost $6000 dollars plus books and the mandatory raspberry pi that wasn't used. This was 2015/2016 when I took the classes and sometime after I quit the FTC started investigating them for false claims and something else.

Devry Online Professors
- HIT 141 had 8 weeks with an unavailable professor who graded without reviewing work.
- I submitted two documents; only one was opened and I got a zero.
HIT 141 was the worst 8 weeks and my professor was even worse. She was never available, had no idea what she was doing or what school I was a part of.
Worse thing is she was able to pass out grades without reviewing all the homework submitted. I was able to provide that when my draft was submitted she only opened one of the two documents and she gave me a zero. How is this fair??? I tried to file a complaint and was passed off to another professor who was equally as bad.
His responds was Devry allows their professor the freedom to grade us as they see fit.
Really so how is at fault that I submitted two documents and she only opened one? I love the freedom of online classes and my current professor rocks but the rest of the program and Devry not so much.
- Current professor rocks and i would recommend her to any one
- One discrimated against me
- Grade point dropped

No worthy education
- Nothing has been resolved.
- DeVry gave me nothing for an education.
- They are pursuing student loans they received on my behalf.
Nothing has bee resolved. Only thing that is certain.
DEVRY gave me nothing for an education.
They are coming after me for the student loans they recieved on my behalf. I set with no job and in foreclosure and about to loose my car.
Canvas
- Canvas is the worst program I've used.
- I'll finish my degree elsewhere; voicethreads cost points if uninformed and groups are inconvenient.
Since we started Canvas, it is the worst school program I have had to deal with. I will finish my degree elsewhere and take my money somewhere else.
This is very inconvenient and extremely stupid that you have to do voicethreads and get points taken away when you don't because you was uninformed to. On top of starting the new Canvas program, they inconvenience the students and teachers by not properly doing a class on how to navigate through this inconvenient system and expect the teachers and students to follow along with these new rules of creating voicethreads, web conferencing when people have different schedules all over the country, etc. The group projects are ridiculous and should definitely not be taken online. That should be a mandatory class onsite.
I had to teach myself statistics in order to pass because the teacher kept going on vacation and the school set the class up in which the teachers could not teach in a way that you understand but in a way where the whole class can fail. DeVry purposely set up just about anything in which you can fail. It has definitely become more inconvenient since I started and they have very unrealistic goals for students to achieve . I will highly recommend students who wants to come to DeVry to look at other schools.
I've been to different colleges and this is the worst one by far. DeVry is a huge inconvenience and I rather finish my degree at the school across the street.
Preferred solution: get rid of the voice threads, get better book for statistics that does not skip steps, propose a free class on how to use canvas, make these full group projects onsite only, stop giving busy work when there is already so much to complete within a week

Verified ReviewerPetitioning DeVry
- B.S. funded by the GI Bill at DeVry.
- Struggled in two online math courses.
- HQ dismissed me for GPA under 3.0; policy allows 3 retakes.
I received my B.S from DeVry with very few issues or concerns, as the degree was paid for in full by the G.I. Bill.
I stayed with the institution for my Graduate education because I knew I would get some credits transferred. Unfortunately, I struggled in two online courses that I pretty much was forced to teach myself. Both were math courses. I waited until they were my final two courses required to graduate, and I needed to retake them.
The Dean approved me retaking the courses. The week the classes began, headquarters sent me a dismissal email because my GPA fell below 3.0. They allow 3 retakes of every course. This is their policy in student handbook.
They did not allow me, a pretty good and faithful student, to do all I could to succeed. Everyone learns different, especially when they have to teach themselves, and the school offers little to no tutoring in person. Allowing me my right to retake the courses just meant more money for them, and they still denied me after initially saying yes in writing. Well...I have a lawyer now!
I was forced to go to another for-profit school to finish what I started, and they did not take most of my credits. I started my Grad degree from scratch. This is absurd! What would have been $50,000 in student loans became $100,000 plus interest.
Still, I am two classes short of completing my Master's as we speak, but I have run out of financial aid. What a waste of life having to retake the same classes at another for-profit. Honestly, they're all rip-offs. Also, my Bachelor degree from these jokers impress absolutely no one.
I am truly ashamed.

DeVry Orlando Florida - Corrupt Business Practices
- DeVry Orlando didn't prepare me for entry-level work.
- Graduates struggle to find jobs despite placement claims.
- I owe about $60,000 in student loans.
I am former student of DeVry of Orlando -Earned my bachelors of science in computer information systems in 2015 with a cumulative GPA 3.86 .
So far, I have been on numerous interviews and all have said that I am not sufficiently trained and that there is too much deficiency in my level of skills to perform even an entry level job. I went back to the administrators of DeVry - According to Orlando DeVry Deans, Counselors and the President of the DeVry - They still state that after testing my skill knowledge that I should be easily hired by any prominent software company with my high level training and skills learned at DeVry.
Although the list of companies they provided me say otherwise as I have been interviewed and tested by several of the well- known companies on DeVry's provided list. The jobs I applied for are entry level software developer, database admin, among others my degree states I am adequately prepped for. I finally gave up and went back to seeking employment in my old industry in construction. DeVry was a waste of time and money since they clearly do not have the necessary components in place to provide a viable university education.
Other same year graduates are having the same issues not finding jobs in their field of study with the education DeVry provided them and graduating with honors.
The reason I chose DeVry was their outstanding job placement stats, stating that 88% of people who go through their program obtain a job in their field 6 months after graduation. In life I believe hard work and perseverance are the keys to successful goal accomplishment. However, in this case I feel I got deceived by a university that over promised and under delivered.
I did my part and graduated with honors, however, all I received in return is over $60,000 dollars in student load debt and nothing to show for it except a worthless diploma in a nice case.
The worst part about it, is DeVry representatives dodge responsibility by turning the tables and placing blame on the graduate for the lack of employment success. My advice to potential students Do Not Consider Devry as a means to gain a reliable university education or a pursuit of gainful employment as you will be extremely disappointed. Apparently DeVry has been the subject of state and federal investigations for years on its recruiting and accounting practices. DeVry is cheating students out of their university education - Stealing Grants & Scholarships while essentially providing a sub-standard education most employers won't consider hiring from.
Students basically achieve a Paper Mill Degree while DeVry administrators make millions from thousands of federal financial aid, scholarships and loans. Students suffer a bigger loss of time and loan payments that the federal aid doesn't cover due to the high $$$$ cost of DeVry’s worthless education. DeVry Orlando campus lacks up to date software programs, lacks educated professors with up to date knowledge and training resulting in worthless education and paper mill degrees.
DeVry lures students in to acquire their federal aid money and scholarships. This is how for- profit schools like DeVry and ITT Tech apparently got rich as there are little government regulations in place on the sub-standard education provided to their students.
For-Profit School ITT Tech is finally being shut down. Time for the Federal Government to Shut Down the thieves at DeVry too.

DeVry’s Grade is an F for Failing in Integrity and Ethical Business Practices – Failing to provide the adequate level of knowledge and skills for today’s business world. Integrity and Ethics go a long way in the business world and DeVry failed when they began to focus more on their wealth and lost vision to the low-quality of the education they sold to their students.

Devry University - Program Review
- GI Bill used; told no federal loans, but I filled the MPN.
- Finished degree; quit job; now owes Perkins Loan and faces FTC judgement.
Just don't do it...I had the GI Bill when I enrolled and told them I don't need any other financial aid. They had me fill out the MPN and all information anyway saying they needed it, but I wouldn't be using federal loans.
My student loans show THAT WAS A LIE! They had me getting both, and I didn't realize it until a few classes in. Fast forward, finished my degree, ended up quitting my job so I could focus fully on school...now with all this FTC judgement, I know my DeVry degree will be absolutely worthless.
That is, once I pay for this Perkins Loa. *** and actually get my degree in hand.
Universities, Colleges and Schools Expert Talks
DeVry isn't what it seems...
- Advisors claimed high grad and quick jobs; reviewer says that's false and not to attend.
- Nearly 60k debt and rising costs; professors were unhelpful.
I attended DeVry right when I got out of high school in 2007, I remember seeing some advisors come to my school and say how great DeVry is and the high percentage that graduate and find a job within 6 months and of course that is all wrong. Not only did I not find a job in my field of study I found out other people I went to school with didn't find a job either or had to drop out because the cost was getting too expensive and they ran out of financial aid!
I find myself almost 60K in debt and have regretted going to DeVry since. The professors at DeVry did not teach me anything really, I usually would have to ask my classmates for help or go online and find the help myself! A lot of the professors here were useless and making all this money off of us for nothing! For those that claim people complain because they are not trying hard enough is not always true!
There are plenty of us that are trying and paying that amount of money you would expect the advisors and professors to do a lot more to help and not just tell you or send you useless information. I would never advise anyone to go to DeVry they have showed time and time again they are in it for the money and not the students. I should have noticed the time I tried to complain about a very rude teacher I had that was not helping me and for some reason I had one of those academic warnings put on me even though the teacher was at fault!!
My mom and I had to fight with the advisors to get that warning off! So yes never again and beware those wanting to join definitely do your research first and save yourself a headache!

Graduated and unemployed
- Graduated from DeVry but did not land a job in the field within six months.
- A year after graduation I began getting bills and calls about the balance.
DeVry is a scam. I graduated from the school and ensured I would have a job in the field of study within six months after graduation.
That never happened and they have ruined my credit and my life due the lies and pressure of taking out loans for programs that do not help the students they enlist. I continued to contact school for assistance in locating employment, continued to update profile on company student portal for jobs and registered with TWC. I was never helped and just referred to the website for students and job posting. Within a year after graduating I started receiving bills and calls regarding my balance.
I again explained I was not working in the field I graduated from and still needed assistance. Again I was referred to the same website as before.
My credit has suffered due to their deceit and I have never worked in the fields of study from the school. How can I pay if I do have the money from the false promises I was to earn from attending the school

Terrible customer service
I spent the last 18 months completing a Bachelors program using my Post 911 60% GI Bill. Three months after completion, I still can’t get a diploma, transcripts or even a single piece of paper saying I completed the program.
I tried enrolling in another school closer to home for a Master program and DeVry refused to send transcripts out. So of course I can’t start the new program. After making several telephone calls, I was told there was a hold on my account for not paying my final bill. Even though I received a billing statement few days before saying I had a zero balance outstanding.
So after calling around and getting no help I find out I have a $1500 balance which is then changed to a $1300 balance. I paid the entire amount by credit card and was told my transcripts and diploma would be sent out immediately. One month later and I still have not heard or received nothing so I started calling again. No one answers at the campus and I get some guy in another state.
He checks and verifies that I have no holds on my account and says my diploma is probably at the campus waiting for me to pick it up. His explanation is that once you pay any outstanding balance and a hold is lifted you are not called or sent any notification. Basically you are supposed to magically know that your diploma and transcripts are sitting on a desk somewhere at the campus waiting for you to drive an hour and a half to pick them up. And of course you can’t call a head and verify that they are there because no one is available to answer the phone.
So I have to go to the school and ask around or request a duplicate diploma for of which there is a fee and can take eight to twelve weeks. The bottom line is there are way better schools that treat their students with more respect.
You would think a school like DeVry, who only exists because of the billions they get from GI Bill programs, would at least pretend that they give a dam.

One of two things is happening. The federal government hasn’t disbursed the funds to DeVry or you had a balance due on your school account and it was applied towards the balance. Neither one is the school’s fault.
